Writer and professor of art, the painter Léonel Jules is also the originator of ART-MÉDIA: www.art-media.ca a research center very documented in the field of Art and the Communication. Exposed in Montreal, Nantes, New York, Miami with  the American Latino museum; in Paris and in Guadeloupe. His works appears in several private and public collections. In Quebec for example: the Contemporary art Museum of Montreal, the Museum of Joliette, the Collection Martineau Walker; the Collection of the National Bank of Canada, the Museum Gilles Villeneuve and the Provigo Collection of Montreal, the collection Lotto Quebec de Mtl. Without forgetting particular collections in Germany, Los Angeles, New Jersey, Miami, in Switzerland, Monte Carlo and Haiti and to very recently Santo Domingo.

Always impassioned by education, he carries out symposium projects with children within the framework of the program “Support for the Montréalaise school”. With students selected and compared to their interest for visual arts; he creates with them murals one of which one was presented at the Contemporary art Museum of Montreal in the Montreal Festival of Light in February 2005. He already carried out several murals which belongs to the heritage of several school institutions of Montreal.

Browsing the site makes it possible to note his work and the seriousness of his plastic research.

“Convergence”, presented last year at the Old Presbytery of Longueuil, an exposure subsidized by the SODAC, proposes a step which joins two courses that characterizes the structure of its pictorial identity: a behavior which expresses the aesthetic values afro-caraïbéennes and another which puts in scene the contemporary concerns of the plastic expression. His last solo with the gallery "Des Mondes et Merveilles" presented a series of large sizes which explore the same sets of themes of the pictorial structure which is built according to the data of Nature and the Culture; and especially, of disproportion in the use of the colors.(see : Vernissage ).

After several years of studies surrounding a synthesis of the color, a return in a warm shade is blending.  Always within the framework of an investigation of the light. Such the yellow in the contact of the black generates this greenish and muddy tint which the gesture weaves as a first level but, however. grounded as pictorial signature. All this work by producing the life in abundance.

This gesture is inherited from the surrealist behavior; the same Lyric trend operating this Quebec artistic movement. The pictorial writing stemming from this movement living on the art is fed at the same instant by this automatic gesture, zero degree of the pictorial writing, the inheritance of the western culture; and by this pleasure in the artistic process, an aspect shows in the Haitian Art.

It results from it in my current work of an interbreeding of these two tendencies which translates in a finely spiritual serenity; a whole variety of formal elements which are welded by this sort of identity of the structure characterized by the color, and by the ideograms. The production of these forms comes true in an authentically human frame and which asserts a pregnancy of these forms and their spiritual specificity

ONU-MINUSTHA (explanations) this work was conceived around the notion of constitutional structure and social organization. A concern of the artist for the development of the situation in Haiti. He beleives as every one that his country deserve a normal structure of the state. -MINUSTHA is an authority created to protect the possessions and establish a certain safety (security). This work evokes in its constitution of the colors which greet the artist Anselm Kiefer. Léonel Jules saw the magnificent exhibition at the museum of Contemporary Art of Montreal on this great german artist and knows its interest for the constitutional things beside the existential concerns. Jules also salutes the singer ( Raper ) Wyclef Jean an inescapable of the modernity in music which went(surrendered) in Haiti during the elections to help his country of origin to find an autonomous system of operation.

L’ethno entomologie, de la réalité à l’imaginaire

Brief description

This innovative model of the "Programme de soutien à l’école montréalaise" of the ministry for Education offers the occasion to the students to live a project combining the fields of art and science. By means of activities of initiation to the ethno entomology, these young people could discover in this project, the fascinating world of the insects and the use by the human ones of certain species.

To this end, the visit to the exposition L’abécédaire des insectes at la Grande bibliothèque of Montreal made it possible to note of the various uses made by various people all throughout the world. In addition, a visit at the Insectarium of Montreal as well as the accompaniment of an entomologist also contributed to perfect their knowledge.

These young experts came to meet us (the artists Eugenia Reznik, Domenica Couturier and Léonel Jules) to approach the stage of artistic creation. They recreated  an abécédaire of imaginary insects with us.
